Gallery - September
September continued the long warm spell and, with the flowers passing, along came the annual crop of berries. It's hard
to miss the brambles, and a wander should certainly reveal plenty of elderberries (fiddly maybe, but they have a gorgeous maroon
juice ideal for jams), hips and haws. You'll have to look a lot harder for apples, but they are there! You're welcome to help
yourself to any of the produce you find, as long as you don't damage the plants.
Do make sure you collect your berries by St. Michaelmas Day - tradition has it that this was the
day St. Michael expelled the devil from heaven, sending him tumbling to earth and landing in a blackberry
bramble. Every September 29th, he revisits the brambles and spits on them, turning the berries sour...
